Don Diablo, DJ, producer, artist and founder of HEXAGON
Don Diablo is a Dutch DJ, producer and multidisciplinary artist who released his first record at 13 and helped shape the Future House sound. He founded HEXAGON, the label, community and fashion brand built around his symbol, has designed apparel for Star Wars and Stranger Things, and has taken his work into fine art. In this conversation he shares how discipline, fasting and a relentless relationship with fear have carried him from a childhood heart and lung diagnosis to a three-decade career, and why he believes the future of creativity belongs to people who train new tools on their own story.

- Fear can work as a signal of growth, because the decisions that feel most uncertain are often where the largest personal and creative progress happens.
- Consistent discipline and daily structure, more than talent alone, are presented as the foundation for sustained creative output.
- Reserving the first hours of the day for body-focused routines before checking messages may reduce reactive stress, although the best timing depends on individual chronotype.
- The extended water fasts and very short sleep described in the conversation are personal practices rather than evidence-based recommendations and carry real risks without medical supervision.
- During fasting the body shifts from glucose toward fat-derived ketones as its main fuel, an adaptation that evolved to help humans survive food scarcity.
- Avoiding alcohol and tobacco, and declining sponsorships that conflict with personal values, protects both health and credibility.
- Early adversity can become lasting motivation, but a drive to prove oneself is more sustainable when paired with self-acceptance.
- Creative success is better measured by the honesty and quality of the work than by trends, streaming numbers or social media validation.
- AI tools extend creativity most when they are trained on a person's own body of work and used deliberately, rather than used to replace original authorship.
- Lasting impact comes from who a person is and how they influence others, and growth requires repeatedly stepping into what feels frightening.
